Teach For America alum Jenna Klotz (Houston ’09) is working hard to create an engaging classroom experience for her kindergartners at Pershing Humanities Magnet School in Chicago—one that will prepare her students for first grade.

With a diverse group of students who love to come to school and share a passion for learning, Ms. Klotz understands the importance of providing a classroom environment that’s filled with enrichment. And one way she has set out to do this is by creating a dramatic play area for her students.

“The play kitchen is a much loved area in our classroom, but unfortunately the current refrigerator is broken beyond repair,” she says. “A new refrigerator will allow the children to make full use of the space again.”

To restore her classroom’s dramatic play area back to its full learning potential, Ms. Klotz has turned to DonorsChoose.org to raise funds to purchase a new refrigerator for its play kitchen. Her students love to learn math and improve literacy skills in their dramatic play area, and with a revamped kitchen, they’ll be able to create recipes and shopping lists, learn new vocabulary words, and discover the relationship between numbers and counting while setting the table.

“They also have opportunities to practice important social skills as well by taking turns,” Ms. Klotz adds. “Providing dramatic play offers a more enriching kindergarten classroom experience that will better prepare my students for first grade and beyond.”

Please consider supporting Ms. Klotz’s project today—and thank you, as always, for supporting teachers and the kids they serve.
